In most games with co-op, we are only free to lift and lift a partner, and mostly just run and shoot while hooting. The problem with most modern co-ops is that you can easily do everything without any help, rushing through the level like a hurricane. Take, for example, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, which in the form in which it initially appears is frankly boring. For the most part, you tolerate everyone without much difficulty. But if you turn up the difficulty to the maximum, remove the interface and the stupid loot level, and do conditionally realistic treatment, then the game is transformed simply dramatically. Now you simply cannot do without the help of a teammate, because they kill in a couple of hits, it takes a long time to heal, and to successfully achieve the goal you need clear coordination of actions. Survival, saving resources and literally testing your endurance – this is exactly the gameplay we saw in the trailers. What if I told you that there is a co-op shooter that has all this out of the box and works quite well?. I don’t know why this air of mystery, because everything is clear from the title, we are talking about GTFO.
You play as criminals forced to go deep into the mining complex to complete various tasks. If we make comparisons, the essence is reminiscent of Deep Rock Galactic, except that here you don’t have to mine ore. But in general, the algorithm is approximately the same: descent, completion of the task and return to the evacuation point. If in DRG outside of a mission you can run around the hub, level up, etc., here the only activity available is the mission. There is no progression provided, the entire arsenal is initially available to you, and the only upgrade that can be made is to install an artifact found in the raid that gives a passive bonus, but is limited in use and disappears after a raid.
Forget about the fervent running around, in the world of GTFO stealth rules the show, so you, like Solid Snake, will spend most of the time on your hands and knees. Having entered the next block, it is necessary to conduct reconnaissance, for which you can use a biodetector, which, like a radar from the alien universe, shows the approximate location of living organisms. For the most part, opponents are sleepers who do not react to practically anything other than external stimuli, such as light and sound. Therefore, we basically do without flashlights and quietly approach for silent elimination, but not everything is so simple. At certain points, they may enter a brief phase of activity during which their reflexes become sharper, and even if you move in a crouch, you may be detected. This is signaled by a characteristic glow in the chest area, which also helps in trying to find them in the dark. So, like that challenge from The Squid Game, you have to alternate walking and stopping until you reach the goal.

You are forced to move around points to speed up security checks and be surrounded by monsters, while wasting your health and precious BC, which at these moments flies off instantly.
After several such messes, when you have an hour and a half of time behind you, and you have only 20 HP and four cartridges left, the cost of a mistake becomes too high. You no longer poke your head into every corner, just so as not to inadvertently run into problems, but simply try to come to the exit in order to preserve the experience gained. And when I say experience, I don’t mean some abstract levels for leveling up, but what you experienced, what you learned and the time you spent completing this raid.
To sum it up, I’ll say, perhaps, a loud phrase, but this game restored my faith in co-op precisely in understanding the interaction between you and your party members. Why, for example, do I not like the beloved Borderlands?? And that’s because I didn’t get into it at the end of the day, but my friends had replayed it several times by the time I started playing it. This was my first playthrough and I wanted to get acquainted with this world, listen to the dialogues, understand how the guns work. And while you’re doing this, your team has rushed forward somewhere and almost completed a couple of quests. And you stand there thinking that you actually want to play too. That is, here little depends on whether you help the team or not, but in GTFO, since you’ve entered together, they can’t do without you.
